Abstract: This session will introduce three new projects in digital medieval studies that use technology to explore issues beyond publication and display. The projects represent both large collaborations and individual efforts, and are designed to answer the following questions, which we will also address in our presentations: What are the methodological issues implied by a digital approach to the analysis of medieval handwriting? What is the relationship between traditional approaches to diplomatic editing and the changes in methods and sources that could result from the use of new technologies? (How) Can 3D imaging of manuscripts assist with the readings of those manuscripts?
