Abstract: The aim of this session is to examine the context of royal palaces and vills across Europe and across a wide time-range. It will consider particularly the accessibility of palaces and royal vills in terms of route-ways and heartlands, and it will consider the relation between palaces and hunting forests, a discussion particularly informed by material emerging from the on-going forests project in the University of Oxford.
