AbstractThe arrival of effective gunpowder weaponry in the 15th century opened up a vast array of possibilities for offense, defense, and diplomacy in military affairs. While the general advent of gunpowder is well studied, concrete details about the ordnance and gunpowder, as well as organization, itself is not as well understood. Here we look to develop a closer study of these topics through the diligent study of the material and documentary remains of gunpowder in its second century of use, but first century of widespread adoption and development.
