Abstract | Self-legitimising efforts of peripheral elites involved projecting their elevated status in different spatial contexts, both physical and symbolic. In that sense, the elites appropriated, used, and produced new spaces in which their privilege and deservedness to rule could be staged and locations which functioned as nodes in their networks of power. This session focuses on how Christian ideology present in different areas such as coins, monasteries, or cults in local milieus was employed by Polish and Norwegian elites to legitimise their power. |
