Abstract | In the first of four sessions on Byzantine borders, speakers address the particular issues of borders on islands, cross-cultural exchange across ideological borders, and the modern imposition of the idea of borders on a borderless world. All sessions in this strand co-mingle data-driven research with analysis of how the historiography of the discipline has real-life consequences in the modern world. |
