AbstractThe objective of this session, organized by the Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM) of the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities of Lisbon with the collaboration of the research team IUS ILLUMINATUM (http://iusilluminata.fcsh.unl.pt/), is investigating the phenomena of crossing territorial borders and the circulations of illuminators, manuscripts, artistic models, patrons and owners, related to the production of illuminated legal manuscripts in Europe with a special focus on the Mediterranean regions. The session aims to show how this mobility had an impact on the making of illuminated legal manuscripts and how these circulations influenced, stimulated, and modified the production processes of manuscripts as well as their iconographic and stylistic features.
