Abstract | The decrease of al-Andalus allowed the expansion of the Christian kingdoms in the north and the consequent ecclesiastic reorganisation of the Iberian peninsula. The re-establishment of the figure of the bishop and his territorial jurisdiction required the use of writing as an instrument to fix the spatial and human boundaries. This scriptural production involved all the social agents and made use of fake documents, cartularies, books of privileges and synodic constitutions. This session will analyse the role of the bishops as promotors of codices and charters that helped to consolidate their diocesan authority. |
