AbstractThis session discusses contemporary dimensions of border concepts in the Middle Ages. The cultural turn brought medieval perceptions of space into the focus of research. The papers break away from anachronisms and search in the written tradition for contemporary dimensions of border concepts. Spaces of power and their boundaries, how these were reconsidered and even exceeded, furthermore death as the boundary between life on earth and beyond, are the topics of the speakers and invite to discussion.
