AbstractThe reign of King Fernando I meant a decisive change in the evolution of western Iberian realms and started a new scene that grew stronger with his son and heir Alfonso VI. Concerning territory, changes are perceptible at all levels, from the structure of the realm itself to the districts that organised Galician space in previous decades. Castles became the main elements of power, both as seats for justice and as places where the tension among aristocrats falls on. The introduction of Romanesque art represents the definitive change of the architectural landscape in the whole realm.
