Abstract | This is the first of two sessions celebrating the 30th anniversary of the journal Early Medieval Europe through the sponsorship of papers delivered by graduate students and ECRs. Paper -a explores the role of consiliarii in 7th-century papal administration to provide new evidence on the papacy as a bridge between East and West. Paper -b discusses Willibrord's consecration in Rome in 695 and the significance of his adoption of the title 'archbishop' to cast new light on the strategies available to insular clerics in Francia. Paper -c analyses early medieval insular interpretations of Pentecost and approaches to the nature of the apostles' speech. |
