AbstractThis panel offers fresh perspectives on three senior female members of the English royal family during the reign of Edward III. First, Katia Wright looks at the role of Edward's queen consort, Philippa of Hainault, as a landowner in the broader context of her queenship. Chloë McKenzie then focuses on the political role Edward and Philippa's eldest daughter, Isabella of Woodstock, and the part she played in her father's kingship. In the final paper, Amy Hayes addresses the ambiguous position of Edward's sister, Queen Joan of Scotland, during her husband David II's imprisonment in England.
