Abstract	Between the 7th and 15th century the area of present-day Croatia was marked by turbulent historical events and frequent changes of political, administrative and ecclesiastical borders. Through several aspects, the papers seek to analyse the ways in which the borders between the 'great empires' Byzantine and Carolingian, Croatian-Hungarian and Ottoman, as well as the 'great forces' such as Venetian, Austrian etc., affected the society, with specific focus on territorial organisation, cultural, and artistic production.
