Abstract | The decrease of al-Andalus allowed the expansion of the Christian kingdoms in the north and the consequent ecclesiastic reorganisation of the Iberian peninsula. To achieve this, it was necessary to establish the figure of the bishop and his territorial jurisdiction. The restoration or creation of each of these spatial circumscriptions involved different ecclesiastic, local, and political agents, which was the cause of dynamics of collaboration and conflict between them. This led to the determination of the different inter- and intra-diocesan boundaries. This session will consider the issues emerging from this process of spatial reorganisation and all the agents who contributed to it. |
